Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance
Own technical initiatives end to end — including architecture, implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement
Partner with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Frontend Engineers to deliver solutions to real customer needs
Investigate technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
Contribute actively to the evolution of Gong’s backend architecture as the platform scales
Requirements
5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong expertise in Java
Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, debug efficiently, and build high-quality systems
Experience designing and operating cloud-based services (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including microservices architectures
Bonus: experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, or data-centric APIs
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset — comfortable working across teams
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
