Communications Director
Position Summary
This position is designed to oversee and support the communications efforts for all areas of University Health and Wellbeing (UHW). Responsible for planning and supporting internal and external communications efforts to the MSU community. This includes strategic communications, public relations, media management, marketing, writing, publication design and new media. Directs overall marketing plan including goals and areas to be addressed. Develops and coordinates internal communications and develops online communication campaign that integrates into and supports UHW marketing initiatives. Develops integrated social media strategies. Manages e-communications strategies and executions including assessing web and social media content needs and opportunities and writing/editing content for online platforms. Directs activities associated with promotion, public relations, outreach events and online web based activities. Directs public relation activities through writing, editing and publications of documents, special events and specialized communications. Develops relationships with internal units, external organizations and groups. Represents UHW in various activities within the University. Manages communication and marketing staff including hiring, and development.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in English, journalism, public relations, marketing, telecommunications or communications, or a related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in news media or media relations or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in telecommunications, marketing, advertising, public relations or related field.
At least 2 years' experience working in a college health, healthcare, or public health setting.
