Job title: Geological Technician Company: Sentinel Peak Resources Management LLC Job description: Description: BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide technical support to the Geologists, Asset Teams and Managers in the assigned asset group. Project creation and data loading within the systems and database environments. Generation of maps and cross sections utilizing geologic software applications, and at times generation of exhibits without the use of geological hardware/software packages. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Well and seismic data preparation to establish working data sets for mapping. Tasks to include: • Maintaining a current working knowledge of geological hardware/software packages and other related software applications. • Dataloading within the Company's geologic Studio/Petrel and database environment. • Creation and manipulation of seismic databases and software package. • Work in conjunction with other geo-technicians locating, loading, verifying, manipulating, analyzing, and reporting well, culture and production data to relevant applications for mapping, cross section generation and seismic interpretation. • Assist Geoscientists with manipulating well performance information data bases and digital well log data bases. • Project construction and data loading for interpretation and mapping. • Will assist Geologist in manipulating and mapping data within development projects. • Prepare permanent well history database to capture pertinent information for drilled wells in several geologic basins. • Records will be in spreadsheet or databases on a PC. Establish and maintain records of data stored in databases and on backup media as needed for the departmental staff. • Perform modeling, digitizing, mapping and plotting in support of the Geologist and Asset Team. • Assist Geologists and Petrophysicist in the use of hardware and software to perform modeling, digitizing, mapping and plottingPrimary function is to prepare the data so the appropriate experts can bring expertise and experience to bear on the task. • Collect, quality control, enter and/or reformat digital well log data in database for use by other geoscientists for log analysis, log display, cross section generation, and seismic modeling. • Respond to frequent requests for data and assistance from professionals and managers in the group. • Develop and maintain contact with people in other departments; Land, IT, Engineering, with whom it is appropriate to share data in digital or hard copy form. Requirements: POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: • Minimum 3 years' experience required as a geology technician in the oil and gas industry or combination of education and experience to meet minimum work experience. • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Computer Science, or other applicable degree desired. • Strong understanding of basic geological/geophysical knowledge that involves importing, retrieving and organizing well information and seismic data for the Arc GIS, Studio/Petrel mapping software packages. Must be proficient in constructing projects and loading data in the Studio database environment for Petrel and other related software applications. • Must be familiar with oil and gas industry data and terminology. • Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and other PC software with accurate typing. • Must possess highly developed analytical skills and some basic programming skills. • Position requires independent thinking and initiative. Incumbent must have the ability and interest to learn how to work effectively with new hardware, software, and data; the initiative and resourcefulness to search for solutions and new knowledge on how to achieve a desired result; and independent thinking to prioritize the workload and determine how to best accomplish various tasks. • Must have the ability to deal logically and effectively with department personnel, management and outside personnel. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, printers, plotters, and computers. Also required is performing repetitive motions, and extended periods of sitting, standing and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing and writing, learning new tasks, processes and concepts, thinking to solve problems, concentrating on required tasks, distinguishing color and depth perception and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents. The position requires performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects for oneself, providing objects to others and occasional stooping, crouching, reaching, fingering and grasping. The position may require walking or traversing over and across uneven terrain, accessing of areas outdoors and on or around equipment, over or around obstacles or structures such as pipes, low rails and walls, stooping or bending to reach certain locations, climbing stairs or ladders, entering, exiting and operating a motor vehicle and exposure to outside weather conditions.
